“Craft psychology, Straw and Craftsmanship”
-An emerging project that aims to strengthen Scandinavian artisanal craft and sustainability

This collaborative initiative brings together Danish design and craftspeople with weavers from Öland to explore the intersection of traditional Swedish handicrafts and contemporary Danish art craft. The project focuses on knowledge sharing, sustainability, and cultural exchange, aiming to preserve and develop techniques using straw and recycled materials.

Rooted in Öland’s local weaving traditions, the project highlights the use of natural and reused materials such as straw, old fishing nets, and textiles in the creation of unique textile products.

Main objectives:

  • Preservation and development of knowledge – focusing on straw and discarded textiles.
  • Material experimentation – exploring straw’s potential as a textile material.
  • Craft psychology – reflecting on the social and emotional value of making together.
  • Cultural collaboration – bridging generations, cultures, and craft traditions.

The project is built on mutual exchange between Danish and Swedish participants, combining historical knowledge with future-oriented sustainable practices.
